The Canon Powershot A520 is an excellent all round camera, with a decent 4x optical zoom lens, and features to suit every need, from basic point and shoot operation, to full manual controls. The camera takes AA batteries so can travel with you anywhere without any need to worry about running out of battery power or supplies. The Canon Powershot A520 is an extremely compact digital camera and has a beautifully curved housing that looks solid and shows its quality. The appliance of new techniques, like a newly developed lens system and the support of the much smaller Secure Digital card in stead of the CompactFlash card, made the Powershot A520 13% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor, the successful Powershot A85. The Canon PowerShot A520 is an attractive, compact and affordable digital camera perfect for an aspiring photographer. It improves upon the hugely popular PowerShot A85 with 4 megapixel resolution and 4x optical zoom.

The Canon PowerShot A520's smallest f-stop is f/8 at both ends of the zoom scale. The Canon PowerShot A520 is surprisingly affordable, considering its features and optional lenses. Aside from the fully automatic mode, you get 13 scene modes for shooting everything from foliage to fireworks. The Canon PowerShot A520's smallest f-stop is f/8 at both ends of the zoom scale. This camera maintains its predecessors' versatility by providing fully manual exposure control along with a broad range of automatic options.

Images not subjected to in-camera processing provide sufficient depth to allow for some Photoshop maximization. My test images needed slight contrast and curve adjustments to get the most out of each shot, but I don't think anybody needs to be a Photoshop expert to get the images to print. Image quality I believe is quite similar.
